Clinical Observation of Acute Drug ntoxication

Abstract
|
|
|
Clinical observation was performed on 300 case of acute drug intoxication who admitted to Department of Internal Medicine, Seoul Adventist Hospital from Jan. 1974 to Dec. 1977, and following result, were obtained.
1) Total number of cases of acute drug intoxication was 300, which was 6.8% of total admission case during the same period.
2) The most common drug of intoxication was sedatives in 31%, the remainders were rodentcides (21.3%), insecticides (21.0%), unknown drugs(13.7%) and other drugs (13.0%) in order of fequency.
3) The motives of intoxication were suicidal attempts in 96% and accidental intoxication in 4%.
4) The ratio of male and female was 1 1.6. The age: incidence was highest in 2nd decade (50.7%) Monthly incidence was highest in May and most common during Summer.
5) Most cases complained of disturbance of consciousness, which was most common in sedatives intoxication.
6) Leukocytosis was common in parathion intoxication.
7) The time of drug ingestion was common at night.
8) . Overall mortality rate of total cases was 8% and prominent in rodentcides intoxication (17.3%).
